Jolly Brook Press
Jolly Brook press is creating a commemorative book of resilient Milwaukeeans during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Using art, photography, prose, and verse, the book will display cooperative strangers, imaginative people, and tenacious citizens in their own words and images.
The Sections of the book will be.
Cooperation: Focus on ways that strangers cooperated for good results during the pandemic. For example, the police working with construction workers to build temporary hospitals and scientists and newscasters disseminating vital information to the public.
Imagination: Focus on the myriad of ways that Milwaukeeans used their imagination to find new approaches to managing the pandemic. For instance, the interesting ways that people handled being cooped up at home, ways how governments created and enforced stay-at-home orders.
Tenacity: Highlight people from minority communities where the pandemic is taking a large toll. Show how people throughout the community fought through a multitude of difficulties, explain how people encouraged others to stay home, and describe how people handled being laid off for an indeterminate time.
Due to the current situation we are moving the publication of the book to 2021. Submissions will be accepted through December 2020 when the project will resume.
